Assertion Training - Some Definitions
1. Assertion/assertiveness involves

Standing up for one's personal rights. |

Being able to express thoughts, feelings, and beliefs in direct honest and
appropriate ways. |

Not violating another person's rights in the process. |
2. Non-assertion / non-assertiveness involves
| a. |
Violating or denying one's own personal rights. |

| b. |
Failing to express thoughts, feelings, and beliefs in direct, honest ways. |
|
|
| c. |
Or expressing thoughts, feelings, and beliefs in such an apologetic, self-effacing
manner that others can easily disregard them. |
3. Aggression involves
| a. |
Directly standing up for one's own personal rights. |

| b. |
Expressing thoughts, feelings, and beliefs in a way which is usually indirect,
dishonest or inappropriate. |

|
| c. |
And in a way which violates the personal rights of another person in the
process |
